The Call of the Wild

When men find gold in the frozen north of Canada, they need dogs - big, strong dogs to pull the sleds on the long journeys to and from the gold mines. Buck is stolen from his home in the south and sold as a sled-dog. He has to learn a new way of life - how to work in harness, how to stay alive in the ice and the snow... and how to fight. Because when a dog falls in a fight, he never gets up again.
The main character of this story is Buck. He is a wolf dog but he spends a very peaceful life with his owner. But one day, he is stolen to be a sled dog. He is bought by men and starts their travel. He quickly learns how to work in harness with other dogs. On a travel, sometimes there are fights. In a dogfight, two dogs attack each other and one of them must die. Since Buck has not lived in the wilderness, he does not know how to fight. But Buck is an excellent dog so he quickly learns how to fight. After the travel, he is bought by other people. He starts his travel with two men and a woman. But they are new to the north and do not know how to travel in a smooth way. On the travel they try to cross a lake covered with thin ice. Looking at the lake, Buck feels he is going to sink and die if he goes. So he refuses to go though he is whipped by the man so many times. The man gives up forcing him go with them and the three and other dogs start to cross the lake, and the ice breaks and they all die. After that, another man bought Buck but during the travel with the man, Buck awakes to his wild nature and goes into a deep forest.
In this story, many dogs die in fights and they sometimes get killed by men after they become unable to pull the sled. I was really sad when reading such scenes. But this story was really exciting and unpredictable. I think it was good that Buck was released from a severe job and could went into the wild in the end.
